Farm Inspection Services is a partnership between MLCÕS Commercial Services Division and Signet Farm Consultancy.
Farm Inspection Services currently provide a technical team of farm inspectors to carry out inspections on behalf of Farm Assured British Beef and Lamb (FABBL) / Assured British Meat (ABM), and the British Deer Farmers Association (BDFA). Up to 20,000 inspections are carried out annually, and there is potential for this increase to 30,000 inspections over the next 3 years.
Farm Inspection Services is at present being assessed by the United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) to become an Accredited Inspection Body to European Standard (EN45004:1995). This will enhance the professional, high quality technical services already being provided by our dedicated inspection team.
The standard of FABBL / ABM fall into six sections:
1. Identification and Traceability
Systems must be in place to record animal movements, and to identify cattle individually.
2. Farm Animal Management
Animals must be well managed to good standards of husbandry and welfare by a competent stockman.
3. Environment and Hygiene Management
There must be systems to prevent pollution of the environment, and spread of infectious diseases.
4. Food Composition, Storage and Use
Animals must be given appropriate food that is stored in good conditions.
5. Housing and Handling Facilities
Facilities must be adequate to provide safe housing, sufficient for the handling of stock.
6. Medicines and Veterinary Treatment
Medicines and treatments must be administered in an appropriate manner and all relevant records kept.
FIS is actively engaged in developing its business activities, with a view to carrying out inspections for other Assurance schemes associated with the agriculture industry. |
